The Rockport Pirate was founded by Walter Perry and his wife Spring to fill a critical need: independent, community-focused journalism for Rockport, Fulton, and Aransas County. Walter brings a deep commitment to public service, shaped by his background running for office in San Antonio and his ongoing academic work in organizational leadership. He holds a Bachelor's in Business Marketing and an MBA from Texas A&M University-San Antonio, and is currently pursuing his PhD in Organizational Leadership at Grand Canyon University.

After moving to the Texas coast, Walter recognized that Rockport—a special gem known for its fishing and community spirit—deserved a strong, independent voice. The Rockport Pirate was born from that vision: a digital news platform built from the ground up to celebrate what makes this community unique and to tackle the tough issues with integrity.
